The NanoZipt Origin Story
It all started with a simple tax return in early 2025. Our founder was in a rush to merge a stack of PDF receipts for an unexpected audit. Like most people, he turned to Google. He found dozens of "free" tools online, but as he read the fine print, he realized a disturbing truth: every single one required him to upload his financial life to a server he didn't know, owned by a company he didn't trust.
That moment of hesitation sparked a question: Why does a simple file operation require sending private data halfway across the world?
The answer was outdated technology. For decades, web browsers were too weak to handle heavy file processing, so servers had to do the work. But times have changed. With the advent of WebAssembly (WASM), browsers can now run powerful, desktop-grade code instantly.
NanoZipt was born from this realization. We set out to build a suite of tools that respect user agency. We rewrote the standard PDF processing engines to run entirely inside your browser tab. This means when you use NanoZipt, the "software" comes to you—your data never goes to us.
